Ushering
is an opportunity to serve God by serving His people, and is a
marvelous way to actively and faithfully participate in the
functioning of St. Dominic’s. They see to it that the services
flow smoothly and orderly, thus heightening the mood to receive God’s
Word. Ushering provides a wonderful way to begin to grow and to
continue to serve in a very important role for the church. The role of
the usher frequently is underestimated for its importance. Good ushers
are “people-persons” who make people coming into the church feel
welcome and appreciated. In doing so, ushers contribute greatly to
making everyone’s church experience a positive one. Think back to when
you first attended a new church – probably one of the ushers had some
impact on you and your family. A positive experience from an usher may
have led you to join that church; maybe and hopefully it was here at
St. Dominic’s! Thus, the opinion the visitor forms of the church is
directly influenced by the usher’s attitude, conduct, and appearance.

Therefore, a good usher always
strives to be a blessing to everyone with whom he comes in contact. He goes out
of his way in his effort to brighten a person’s day and to be a blessing to
everyone he meets. An usher’s influence will always be a positive one if he
endeavors to go the extra mile to help everyone.

Ushers arrive 15 minutes
before the service. They welcome arriving members and guests to our services,
pass out the parish bulletin, assist and direct with seating, collect the
offering and present it to the altar, direct the orderly flow of communicants to
the altar, straighten the pews after the service, help in emergencies, and aid
the clergy. |

We need reliable,
conscientious, energetic, caring and dedicated people to become Ushers. Anyone who is a "people person" may be an usher. If
you would like to become an Usher, please contact Mike Wilson, 872-8022.

An Usher's Prayer
Lord, in your love you gather your
people this day, help me to serve them in a Christ-like manner, even as
your son Jesus served those who gathered about him. Make me
prayerful, patient, helpful and understanding, and may I radiate the joy
that faith brings as I serve their needs. Give me your strength to
support my fellow ministers. May all who assemble to celebrate our
common faith in the risen savior be glad of heart for being here and for
having encountered your son in one another, in our priest, at the tables
of the book and the bread, and through the ministry of ushers like
me. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
-Gregory F. Smith, O. Carm
