Ushering is an opportunity to serve God by serving His people, and is a marvelous way to actively and faithfully participate in the functioning of St. Dominic’s.  They see to it that the services flow smoothly and orderly, thus heightening the mood to receive God’s Word. Ushering provides a wonderful way to begin to grow and to continue to serve in a very important role for the church. The role of the usher frequently is underestimated for its importance. Good ushers are “people-persons” who make people coming into the church feel welcome and appreciated. In doing so, ushers contribute greatly to making everyone’s church experience a positive one. Think back to when you first attended a new church – probably one of the ushers had some impact on you and your family. A positive experience from an usher may have led you to join that church; maybe and hopefully it was here at St. Dominic’s! Thus, the opinion the visitor forms of the church is directly influenced by the usher’s attitude, conduct, and appearance.

Ushers arrive 15 minutes before the service. They welcome arriving members and guests to our services, pass out the parish bulletin, assist and direct with seating, collect the offering and present it to the altar, direct the orderly flow of communicants to the altar, straighten the pews after the service, help in emergencies, and aid the clergy.
